People are still feeling the effects of 9/11. Thousands of individuals volunteered to help in one way or another. Many others survived the ordeal of that day. After the World Trade Center (WTC) bombings, scores of survivors and volunteers that were in the area are now suffering from some form of cancer.
To date, more than 5000 incidents of cancer patients have been recorded. These patients must have survived the attack, lived close to the area or paid a visit to the area. From the list of cancer patients, there are many members of the NYFD, the NYPD and first responders to Ground Zero, volunteers and workers. Most of the workers and survivors of the 9/11 have contracted many forms of cancer. However, the people are suffering from 15 common forms of cancer. They are bladder cancer, colon cancer, leukemia, oropharynx cancer, thyroid cancer, non-melanoma skin cancer, lung cancer and kidney cancer. The others are breast carcinoma in situ, female breast cancer, lymphoma, myeloma, prostate cancer, melanoma of the skin and rectal cancer.
Volunteers did their best to help the survivors. However, they did not know that Ground Zero was already a toxic wasteland. Time did not allow for the establishment of appropriate safety measures. People were not concerned about their health as they frantically did all they could to help those in need. Today, these heroes are upset because they are frustrated and traumatized because of becoming cancer patients. They will have to undergo extensive medical attention. This entails that the patients will have to go through expensive procedures and incur out-of pocket costs. To this end, some people may lose their sources of livelihoods, especially when the situation is overpowering and the victim is absent from work for extended periods.
Individuals that contracted cancer by virtue of the events that that transpired during the 9/11 attacks are eligible for compensation. This includes patient’s family. The 9/11 victims fund will cover all financial considerations, including lost income and expenses. In order to learn more about the situation, it is advisable to consult a lawyer having a strong background in matters of compensation. Lawyers that have been protecting and overseeing the right of the survivors will review the details regarding your case and answer all your hard questions. The lawyers can help you receive the compensation in order to cater for medical treatment. If your loved one or you were exposed to the toxic conditions of 9/11 and developed cancer, you will need to have a conversation with an attorney. The attorney should have devoted much of his or her time in representing first responders and survivors.
